If amalgam isn't safe then why do dentists still use it? And why does the government allow it to happen? I do think it's odd that mercury is used in amalgam to make fillings and I would think that dentists would just stop using something that contains a poisonous metal in it. Even if it's a minute level of mercury and it technically isn't dangerous, I'm sure there are better materials to use as fillings.
